Why Glass Ritual™ Exists
Why Glass Ritual™ Exists
People often ask me:
“Why skincare?”
“Why haircare?”
“Why ritual?”
“Why are you so obsessed with journaling, structure, and consistency?”
The truth is…
I didn’t build Glass Ritual™ because beauty was easy for me.
I built it because for a long time…
beauty felt like war.
I grew up in inland South Africa.
Dry air.
Intense sun.
Harsh seasons.
And skin that never seemed to cooperate.
While other people seemed to wake up with naturally calm skin…
I was fighting severe acne.
Painful breakouts.
Inflammation.
Oil.
Congestion.
The kind of skin that makes you study your reflection before anyone else sees you.
The kind of skin that quietly chips away at confidence.
And like so many people…
I thought the answer was products.
More products.
Stronger products.
Different products.
Whatever someone recommended.
Whatever promised hope.
Whatever claimed to be “the fix.”
Then life took me to New Zealand.
And I thought…
maybe a new country would mean a fresh start.
Instead…
my skin broke in an entirely different way.
Daily ocean air.
Relentless wind.
Salt.
Cold.
Constant environmental exposure.
And suddenly the acne was no longer the biggest problem.
My skin barrier began to collapse.
Everything stung.
Everything burned.
Everything reacted.
Creams.
Serums.
Cleansers.
Even “gentle” products.
Especially the delicate skin around my eyes…
raw…
excoriated…
painful…
angry.
I didn’t understand what was happening.
I didn’t understand skin biology.
I didn’t understand the barrier.
I didn’t understand inflammation.
I only understood one thing:
Nothing was working.
So I did what most people do.
I listened to recommendations.
Try this cream.
Try that serum.
Try this miracle product.
Try this “holy grail.”
And slowly…
my bathroom filled with bottles.
Half-used.
Abandoned.
Expensive.
And my bank account became as depleted as my skin.
A few years later…
I moved to Australia.
And if my skin was struggling before…
the harsher environment pushed it even further.
Heat.
Sun.
Dryness.
Air conditioning.
Environmental stress.
And by then…
my barrier was so compromised…
that almost anything touching my skin felt painful.
So eventually…
I gave up.
No makeup.
No skincare.
No routines.
No hope.
For a season of my life…
I washed my face with plain water…
and used only Vaseline.
Not because it was glamorous.
Not because it was ideal.
But because it was the only thing my skin could tolerate.
Imagine going to work every day…
knowing your skin is uncomfortable…
knowing you don’t feel like yourself…
knowing you’re surviving…
not thriving.
And my hair?
It wasn’t any better.
Dry.
Brittle.
Frizzy.
Breaking.
Reactive.
Unpredictable.
If there was a hair problem…
I felt like I had it.
And for years…
I blamed genetics.
I blamed the climate.
I blamed my body.
I blamed myself.
Then something changed.
I discovered the philosophy behind Korean skincare…
and Korean haircare.
And for the first time…
I wasn’t being sold miracles.
I was being taught something far more powerful:
Prevention.
Protection.
Patience.
Structure.
Consistency.
Not: “Fix everything overnight.”
But: “Observe. Learn. Support. Repeat.”
And that changed everything.
Because for the first time…
I stopped asking: “What product do I need?”
And started asking:
“What is my skin trying to tell me?”
“What is my hair trying to tell me?”
And that’s when I started journaling.
Every day.
Tiny observations.
Tiny patterns.
Tiny shifts.
What stung. What calmed. What flared. What soothed.
What tangled. What broke. What improved. What didn’t.
Because what is understood…
can be transformed.
And that is how Glass Ritual™ was born.
Not from perfection.
Not from flawless skin.
Not from perfect hair.
And certainly not from overnight success.
Glass Ritual™ was born from pain…
from confusion…
from years of trial and error…
from depleted bank accounts…
from damaged barriers…
from broken strands…
from environmental extremes…
from learning the hard way…
and finally…
from choosing ritual over randomness.
Today…
my skin is not perfect.
My hair is not perfect.
And that’s exactly the point.
Because this isn’t about perfection.
This is about awareness.
This is about ownership.
This is about celebrating small changes.
This is about understanding your biology… instead of blaming your genetics.
This is about learning your patterns… instead of chasing hype.
one observation…
one ritual…
one day at a time.
And if you’re here…
if your skin feels confusing…
if your hair feels frustrating…
if your bathroom is full of products that promised everything…
I want you to know this:
You are not starting behind.
You are starting aware.
And awareness…
changes everything.
Welcome to Glass Ritual™.
We do not chase glow.
We build it.
